Some training is too dangerous, too expensive or too rare to repeat. A virtual lab lets learners make their mistakes where they cost nothing.

The situation

A training institute in Yanbu, backed by the Saudi Royal Commission, taught rubber tyre manufacturing. The equipment is costly and hazardous, and each hands-on session uses up material and time. Learners could rarely practice a process more than once.

What we built

A customised virtual lab with guided workshops and safety instructions, and interactive 3D scenes for mixing and compounding, curing, testing and manufacturing. Learners walk through a process, make decisions and see the consequences.

It was the first customised virtual lab for a rubber tyres manufacturing training institute.

What it taught us

Immersive learning earns its cost only when the physical alternative is hard to repeat. Where it is, a learner can rehearse a dangerous step a dozen times before they stand in front of the real machine.
